What is NSWN?

The National Social Welfare Board (NSWB) is a statutory body established in 1953 under the Department of Social Welfare, Government of India. The Board is responsible for the formulation of social welfare policies and programs, the coordination of their implementation by the Central Ministries/Departments, State Governments/Union Territory Administrations, and voluntary organizations, and the evaluation of their impact. 

The Board also functions as the nodal agency for receiving international technical and financial assistance for the social welfare sector in India. It has wide-ranging responsibilities which include social defense, relief in natural calamities, promotion of rural development and employment, rehabilitation of beggars and slum-dwellers, family counseling centers, protection of women and children, the welfare of Scheduled Castes/Tribes, Handicapped and other vulnerable groups.

-be at least 18 years of age

-have a valid passport

-be able to commit to at least 2 weeks of volunteering

-be in good physical and mental health

-have a clean criminal record
