This is because the stunning breed sports a marbling coat or spotted coat which has a look that resembles an ocelot or wild leopard. While Bengals were developed by breeding domestic felines to one Asian leopard, their natural characteristics have long been left behind.

And every following generation gets the designation of a number like F2, F3, F4, etc. To be considered a truly domestic cat, a Bengal must at a minimum be an F4.

Appearance

Bengal cats are a lean and agile breed. They typically weigh between 8-15 pounds. They’re renowned for their long hair, short coats that are boldly decorated in shades of brown, silver, and snow. Their fur is soft to the touch which feels similar to rabbit hair. The most popular colors for eyes seen in Bengal cats include yellow, brown, orange and green.

A Bengal cat’s coat is what sets him apart from all other felines. In reality, Bengals are the only breed with rosette markings that directly reflect their natural Asian leopard ancestral roots. Spotted or marbled coats are also popular and are just as beautiful. Because their furs are so small, they require only regular brushing in order to get rid of the dead cells and hair that have accumulated.

Although Bengal cats weigh around the same as a normal domestic cat, they’re typically larger due to their large, muscular bodies. They also have long legs, which make them great jumpers, so don’t be shocked if you spot your Bengal looking at you from countertops and shelves.
