Usually, we do not often make the difference between synthesis and summarizer. Indeed, they are different things even if they may have some points in common. This article aims to provide much more clarification on these two terms. For this, we will define each of the words, then we will see their similarities and their differences.
What is a summarizer ?
To make a summarizer is to rewrite a text respecting the tone, the style and the thought of the author, in a simpler and clearer way. The summarizer is neither a criticism of the text nor an analysis of the text, nor is it a descriptive sheet of the text. This means that it is written in the mind of the author and does not imply any ideas or personal information or comments on the arguments or ideas presented. The abstract is an abridged version of the text that highlights key points. Summarizing means translating the text into a few words, faithfully respecting the authors and the ideas they individually express, rather than elaborating. To be able to make a summarizer, it is necessary to know how to identify certain points. Among these points are the main idea and the secondary idea. The main idea is the meaningful unity of the text. The main idea is necessary to understand the meaning of the text. Secondary ideas clarify the main idea, but are not necessary to understand the meaning of the text. Make sure the abstract text is easy to understand and the author’s thought process is easy to understand. The summarizer must be grammatically correct. The visual aspect of the summarizer is important. So create beautiful and easy to read text summarizers.
What is Synthesis ?
The synthesis of a text is an objective report on the text, characterized by objectivity (neutrality: no opinion), patenting and respect for a logical sequence. Text summaries can relate to written texts (literature, news, etc.) or representations (photos, cartoons, statistical tables, etc.). A summary usually consists of three basic parts : introduction, development and conclusion. The introduction intrigues the reader by presenting the topics covered and the document to be synthesized. It also indicates summary plans, as was done for a dissertation. Thus, the introduction includes a brief introduction to the developed topic, an introduction to the text, a formulation of the problem and a statement of the overall plan. The development is the central part of the summary, which consists of two or three parts, each dealing with a main idea. The main idea of each part of the development can be broken down into sub-ideas. You can also use logical connectors to convert between different parts of text. The conclusion is the last part of the summary, which usually has two parts : the objective conclusion and the subjective conclusion. The role of an objective conclusion is to provide some answers to the questions posed in the introduction, while remaining within the limits of the content or the source text. Subjective conclusions allow you to go beyond the content of the source text, that is, they allow you to give your opinion on the source document in a concise way.
What is the relationship between summarizer and synthesis ?
A summarizer is a formal reduction of a text that will retain all of its ideas (or the most important ones) whereas a synthesis is the guiding ideology of reducing at least two texts into a single structured text and including them in a logical way. To make a summarizer, four main steps must be carried out : reading, content analysis, plan and writing. To establish a synthesis, five steps must be taken into account : reading, content analysis, confrontation, the summary note plan and finally writing. However, whether for a summarizer or a synthesis, you should never show your ideas or your personal opinions, you must always remain objective.
