In a bid to increase its market share in the Indian market, Ford has plans to launch multiple new products in the market. After the Ford Figo Aspire, that is scheduled to launch in August, the company will bring in the new-generation model of the Ford Endeavour in India.

The new-gen model was first showcased as the 'Everest concept' in Sydney, Australia in 2013, followed by its unveiling at the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show. The production-ready model of the car looks exactly similar to the concept, save for the new alloy wheels.

Based on Ford's Edge design philosophy, the new-gen Endeavour is expected to be more upmarket than its predecessor. In order to enhance its off-roading capabilities, the company has developed it on a new ladder frame chassis. What will add more to its drivability is the inclusion of a new independent coil-spring layout at the rear instead of the leaf spring setup found in the current model.

What's also new is the new terrain management system (TMS) that allows a driver to select among pre-adjust settings (normal, snow/grass, sand and rock) while driving.  Each of the aforementioned settings adjust the traction control, engine torque, four-wheel drive system and other things to better the driving performance in any condition.

The cabin of the new-gen model is likely to be inspired by Ford's F-150 pickup truck. Just like the F-150, it will have Ford's SYNC2 multimedia setup and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

To be brought as completely knocked-down (CKD) units, the vehicle will be made available with two engine options - a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel and a 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel engine. While the 2.2-litre diesel unit churns out 158bhp and 385Nm, the 3.2-litre diesel engine is good for 197bhp and 470Nm. Both the engines will get a 6-speed automatic, though the 2.2-litre diesel engined model might also get a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the 3.2-litre engined model will get a 4x4 system, the smaller engine might only come with a 4x2 layout.

The new-gen model is expected to come in the price bracket of Rs. 22 - Rs. 27 lakh in India.
